Sierra de Aracena Walking Tour

From September 2019 we are offering a unique 8 days/7 nights circular self-guided walking tour in the Sierra de Aracena*. On this route, you will walk along the old donkey trails of the Sierra, explore the natural beauty of this protected area in an fantastic way and visit some of the most beautiful white villages Spain has to offer – all in one action packed week of walking.

The route covers the highlights of the Sierra de Aracena natural park – one of the most beautiful areas of Andalusia known for its rolling hills of cork and stone oaks, variety of wildlife (especially birds) and tranquil walking paths.

On your tour, you will be passing by, dining and staying in some of the most amazing villages of the area including:

  • Aracena
  • Fuenteheridos
  • Galaroza
  • Alajar
  • Linares de la Sierra
  • Almonaster La Real

There are six stages on this route with an average stage including a 10km trek. The terrain is varied with dirt tracks and cobbled paths making up the majority of the walks. You will walk from one village to the next over the old donkey trails that were used for centuries to connect towns before modern asphalt roads were available.

The Sierra de Aracena is known for its natural beauty, picturesque whitewashed villages and exquisite gastronomy. With our half board stays you will get the opportunity to try some of the local delicacies (think local cured ham from acorn fed free roaming pigs, wild mushrooms, gambas from Huelva and much more). Your luggage will be transferred from hotel to hotel by us so you don’t have to worry about carrying a heavy backpack.

The trek is available from September to June. July and August are just too hot to walk so we do not offer these months.
