    June 2018 Expenses

This month we had one large expense which was our new Australian Shepherd puppy Pipa. We had to go and pick her up in Barjacoba which meant a big (and expensive) road trip. Apart from that, we are doing ok when it comes to our overall living expenses, this month coming in just under €1000 (€936.46 to be exact). The full list of expenses can be found here. We spent a bit more on shopping, this included some ‘necessary’ clothing for Patty and some essentials for Pipa. We also are starting to see the impact of growing some of our own vegetables with our supermarket bill now about €20 lower than normal…

How to make Strawberry and Pimm’s Jam

Strawberry season is here so I thought it would be a great time to whip up this alcohol-infused jam! This soft-set recipe reminds me of summers in London with Wimbledon, market stands selling strawberries everywhere and where it was always Pimm’s o’clock (at least for me). For those of you who don’t know, Pimm’s is a popular summer drink in England. It’s gin based and it is served with lemonade (I prefer orange or lemon soda), chopped fruits such as oranges and strawberries, cucumber, mint leaves and ice.  You can also use gin instead or if you don’t like the idea of having alcohol in your jam just omit it and add some…

Sierra de Aracena: What to Do, See and Eat

If you want to travel off the beaten path while enjoying great food in charming villages full of tradition and surrounded by a beautiful lush scenery, then the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche is the place to go! The Sierra is a protected natural park located in the northern part of the province of Huelva in Spain. It is northwest of Seville and near the Portuguese border (only 45km from Finca Bravo). With plenty of rainfall during the winter months (and well into spring this year), it is probably the greenest of all areas in Andalusia. Over 40,000 people live here and since March of this year we feel privileged to call this area…

Why are we leaving everything behind?

People might be curious as to why on earth we would trade our comfortable life in cosmopolitan London to live in a place as quiet and rural as Cortegana. We’ve been planning our move for almost three years now and during this time we have explained the ins and outs of our adventurous (some prefer the word ‘crazy’) project to our friends and family many times. Usually people ask a lot of practical questions and sometimes this means we forget to talk about why we are doing this. So here is a post trying to address this question and highlight the main reasons behind our change in lifestyle. I should begin with…
